Put Our Experience To Work For You

Striving To Make Your Divorce As Painless As Possible

Nobody wants to get a divorce. However, some divorces can be more painful than others.

At Shaughnessy Law, we understand that this time in your life is likely filled with disappointment, anger and fear of the future. Our aim is to make it as painless as possible and make sure you are in an excellent position to move forward after your divorce is finalized.

If you have a reasonable, experienced attorney who can work with you and guide you through the process, this does not have to be a horrible process. With an attorney who is available to personally explain your rights and obligations so that you can make the best choices about your future, it does not have to be prohibitively expensive or time-consuming.

In fact, for an uncontested divorce, processing time can take as little as 30 days.

Divorce Made Simple

If your divorce is uncontested, both parties agree on the major issues. All that is required is to sign a Marital Settlement agreement and go to court to finalize the divorce. A contested divorce is much more time-consuming and may require court-mandated mediation to decide major issues.

Our goal is to help you resolve your case as efficiently as possible while being vigilant in defense of your best interests. Even if your separation involves complex property division, it can still be approached as a solvable matter if both sides are interested in fair, honest and cooperative problem-solving.

Some matters to keep in mind:

  • Communication: If you are communicating with your spouse, you can exchange information and affidavits, and see what you’re thinking in terms of settlement. You can decide which issues need to be discussed further with our help and which ones can be easily settled between the two of you.
  • Major issues: We can examine your situation and advise you as to whether your agreement is likely to result in alimony. We will also help you decide how to divide your assets, which may include homes, vehicles, investments, debts and retirement benefits. If you have children, deciding whom they will live with is a major decision but can be made cooperatively.
  • Representation: Although we can help you process an uncontested divorce, both sides should be represented by a lawyer to ensure that your rights are respected. We are unable to act as the lawyer for both spouses.
